Silent Bloom

I shaped a piece of plastic into a funnel-like form and photographed it up close. As its edges curled around each other, it reminded me of a rose. I was interested in how the folds led towards the centre and how the light revealed them.

I tried different lighting and camera angles. In some places, only a thin edge caught the light. In others, a whole curve became visible. The inner parts stayed in shadow, leaving something hidden behind the next fold.

I enjoyed watching a simple material take on such a familiar shape. A small adjustment changed how the centre opened. I stayed with this version for a while, drawn to the edges resting around each other like the petals of a flower that had not yet opened.
