Rust Vein

I photographed a rusty surface up close. I was interested in the small marks, cracks, and layers. The rust looked different in each area: in some places, it had only changed the colour; in others, the surface had started to lift and peel.

I tried different light positions to bring out these details. A small change made another part stand out, and the little bumps cast shadows. I enjoyed following the places where the smooth areas met the rough surface.

I do not know what it looked like when it was new, or how long this change took. It caught my attention just as it was. Up close, I found enough small details to lose track of time for a while.
