I photographed a detail of an old, heavily rusted surface. Thick, rough layers covered it, as if each small patch had slowly grown over time. I was interested in where the original material still showed and where rust had covered it completely.
Up close, I found small holes, bumps, and edges that were falling apart. The light caught some details and left others in shadow. I moved slowly with the camera, always finding another small area to explore.
I imagined how much rain and sunshine it had seen. Many small changes over a long time had shaped this surface. That thought stayed with me as I took the photo: stopping for a moment beside something that had been changing for years.
